How to Share a WiFi Password on Your Phone

Sharing a WiFi Password

We all know that passwords should be a hard-to-guess, complex string, which doesn’t always make it easy to share with friends or clients when they are using your WiFi. But sharing your WiFi password doesn’t have to involve hunting down a scrap of paper or digging through your router’s settings. Whether you’re using an iPhone or a Samsung device, modern smartphones make it surprisingly easy to share your connection securely and quickly. While we always advise caution when sharing your WiFi password, here are our step-by-step instructions on how to share a WiFi password on both iPhone (iOS) and Samsung (Android) devices.

How to Share a WiFi Password on iPhone

Sharing a WiFi password between Apple devices is very straightforward. Here’s how to do it…

  • Both iPhones must be running iOS 11 or above.
  • WiFi and Bluetooth must be turned on for both phones.
  • Both devices should be unlocked and close to each other.
  • The Apple ID of the person you’re sharing with must be in your Contacts.

Steps:

  1. Make sure your iPhone is connected to the WiFi network you want to share.
  2. On the other iPhone, go to Settings > WiFi and select the same network.
  3. A pop-up will appear on your iPhone asking if you want to share the password.
  4. Tap “Share Password”, and it will auto-fill on the other device.
  5. Tap “Done” when the password has been shared.

How to Share a WiFi Password on Samsung (Android)

Android phones, such as Samsung, use a QR code to share your WiFi password. It’s fast, secure, and works with any phone that can scan QR codes, even iPhones!

Steps:

  1. Make sure your Samsung phone is connected to the WiFi network.
  2. Go to Settings > Connections > WiFi.
  3. Tap the gear icon ⚙️ next to the connected network.
  4. Tap QR Code at the bottom of the screen.
  5. A QR code will appear. Have the other person scan it with their phone’s camera.

How to Scan the QR Code:

  • iPhones: Open the Camera and point it at the QR code, then tap the prompt to join the network.
  • Android Phones: Use the Camera or Google Lens. Some models also have a built-in “Scan QR Code” option in WiFi settings.

Pro Tip: You can also screenshot the QR code and send it by text or email if the person isn’t nearby.

Can You View the Actual Password?

If you want to see the password (maybe for typing it into a non-phone device), here’s how:

On Samsung (Android 10+):

  • When you generate the QR code (via WiFi settings), you’ll see the network password displayed below it.

On iPhone (iOS 16+)

  • iPhones don’t let you view saved WiFi passwords directly in the Settings app. But you can go to: Settings > WiFi> Tap the network > Password and use Face ID/Touch ID to view it.

No more spelling out passwords across the room or scribbling complex strings down on the back of an envelope. Whether you’re team iPhone or team Samsung, sharing your WiFi password has never been easier.
